The study looked at how distance affects international trade between Canadian provinces and US states. They found that using a more accurate measure of distance didn't change the distance effect estimate much. When they looked at different modes of transportation, the distance effect varied. Using a spatial lag model decreased distance effect estimates, while a spatial error model improved predictive power.
