Leaf clipping reduces rice yield significantly, impacting food security worldwide.
Leaf clipping was studied on modern and local rice varieties to see its effect on yield. Different types of leaf cutting were done, and data on yield attributes were collected. In the modern variety, cutting the flag leaf alone or with the 2nd and 3rd leaves reduced grain number and weight per panicle significantly. For the local variety, cutting the flag leaf with the 2nd and 3rd leaves had a big impact on grain number and weight per panicle. Overall, leaf clipping affected the yield attributes of the local variety more than the modern variety.
