Artificial Beach Nourishment Saves Yanliao Beach from Erosion Disaster
Yanliao Beach in Taiwan faced erosion after a typhoon in 2007, threatening its recreational function. To protect the beach, an artificial nourishment method was used, adding sand to the beach and dunes above the water line. This prevented further collapse of the dunes and pollution of the water. The survey showed that the beach widened and advanced toward the sea, indicating the success of the nourishment method.
