Smallholder farmers in Malawi and Mozambique poised to boost maize production and income.
The study looked at how well small farmers in Malawi and Mozambique grow and sell maize, a popular crop in these countries. They found that although Malawi's farmers produce a bit more maize, Mozambique's farmers are better at selling it for a good price. Mozambique has an advantage because it's cheaper for farmers to get the things they need to grow maize. Overall, both countries' farmers don't grow as much maize as others in the region do. To help farmers be more competitive, the study suggests ways to improve how much maize they grow and sell. By enhancing productivity and trading skills, farmers in both countries can benefit and improve the maize farming system.
