Air Injection Boosts Coalbed Methane Extraction, Prevents Deadly Gas Outbursts.
Coal mining can be dangerous due to gas outbursts, but a new method was tested in a Chinese coal mine to extract methane gas more efficiently. By injecting air into the coal seam, the pressure on the coal decreased, making it easier for the methane to move through the fractures in the coal. This method increased the permeability of the coal, allowing the methane to move more easily and preventing gas outbursts in the mine. The study showed that injecting air into the coal seam can help extract methane gas more effectively and make mining safer.
