Arid regions can boost crop yields and conserve water with optimized irrigation schedules
The researchers developed a model to optimize irrigation scheduling for maize in a dry area. They used a simulation-based approach to find the best times to water the crops. By testing the model in a specific region in China, they found that the current irrigation schedule was not efficient, leading to wasted water. However, after optimizing the schedule, they saw an improvement in water usage and a decrease in water shortages for the crops.
