Dairy Wastewater Pollutes Water Bodies, Disrupts Ecosystems Nationwide
In India, dairy industries produce a lot of wastewater that can harm the environment if not treated properly. Scientists investigated the characteristics of this wastewater, focusing on its chemical properties like pH, COD, and BOD. After treatment, the BOD levels were around 320 to 355, and the COD ranged from 954 to 982. They also looked at how harmful the wastewater was to genes, finding that it had a low mutagenicity ratio, which means it was not very damaging at the genetic level. This study helps us understand the potential environmental impact of dairy industry wastewater and shows that proper treatment can help reduce its harmful effects on ecosystems.
