Cover crops in Nebraska maize-soybean rotations have minimal impact on soil water storage. Researchers studied different locations and cover crop treatments over 3 years. They found that cover crops did not significantly affect soil water content for primary crop production. The amount of cover crop biomass varied across locations but did not greatly influence soil water storage. Overall, winter cover crops did not reduce soil water content in a way that would harm maize and soybean crop growth.
