New Genetic Discoveries in Sugarcane Promise Higher Yields and Profits
Researchers studied 73 sugarcane types to see how they perform in terms of biomass, fiber yield, alcohol yield, sugar content, and overall cane yield. They found that certain traits like stalk length, number of canes, and sugar content are strongly influenced by genetics and can be improved through selective breeding. This means that sugarcane varieties with desirable traits can be developed for better yields and quality.
