New Zealand's Waste-to-Energy Solution: Anaerobic Digestion for Sustainable Future
The article discusses waste management in New Zealand and explores Waste-to-Energy (WtE) options. The main goal is to find a sustainable way to treat waste and make use of waste energy. Four WtE technologies were compared: incineration, anaerobic digestion, gasification, and pyrolysis. Anaerobic digestion was found to be the most attractive option due to its environmental friendliness and alignment with New Zealand's waste management strategy. However, it has limitations in energy production efficiency and waste treatment capacity. To make it successful, a national waste reduction and recycling strategy is essential.
