Sediment flow into Yellow River drastically decreases, impacting environment and safety.
The amount of sediment entering the Yellow River has decreased significantly in recent years. Different studies have shown varying results on this issue. This study analyzed the main processes that contribute to sediment movement into the river, such as erosion and sediment transport. By considering factors like water and soil conservation projects, climate change, and human activities, it was estimated that the safe amount of sediment in the Yellow River for engineering purposes should be between 8 and 12 billion tons per year, with a suggested minimum of 10 billion tons per year.
