Green infrastructures reduce urban runoff by 28%, improving city resilience.
The study looked at how different urban surfaces affect runoff during rainfall. They used models to mimic rain on surfaces like grass and pavement. They found that paved areas produce more runoff than grassy areas. Grass delays runoff more than pavement. Using special pavement can reduce runoff. Over time, more paved areas in Beijing led to more runoff. But adding green infrastructure decreased runoff in different scenarios.
