Climate change driving significant increase in methane emissions from rice fields.
Methane emissions from double-rice cropping in Southern China have been increasing over the past 50 years, especially in provinces like Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei, and Hunan. The use of a biogeochemistry model showed that rising temperatures are linked to higher methane emissions from these paddy fields. However, in Guangxi and Guangdong, methane emissions have slightly decreased. This study highlights the impact of climate change on methane emissions from double rice cultivation in China.
