Biochar boosts soil water retention and plant growth in sandy loam.
Biochar was added to sandy loam soil to see how it affects soil structure and water retention. The study found that adding biochar increased soil organic carbon content, improved water retention, and enhanced soil porosity. However, it did not improve soil aggregation. High-dose biochar increased total soil porosity and macroporosity, leading to better water-holding capacity. Overall, biochar can enhance soil hydraulic function in sandy loam soil, but it may not necessarily improve soil aggregation.
