Revolutionary irrigation method boosts wheat yield and saves water in China
Optimizing micro-sprinkling irrigation and nitrogen application can increase winter wheat yield in the North China Plain. By testing different irrigation frequencies and nitrogen levels, researchers found that more frequent irrigation and optimal nitrogen application led to higher grain yields and better use of water and nitrogen. The study showed that micro-sprinkling irrigation with frequent water application and optimized nitrogen levels resulted in increased grain weight, improved leaf growth, and higher water and nitrogen use efficiency. Overall, using the right irrigation schedule and nitrogen levels can help farmers in the North China Plain achieve higher yields and better resource use efficiency for winter wheat.
