China's industrial CO2 emissions decline despite economic growth, driven by energy efficiency and emissions intensity improvements.
Industry in China produces a lot of CO2 emissions, but there is potential to reduce them. The study looked at CO2 emissions from different energy sources in China's industry from 1991 to 2015. They found that economic growth and CO2 emissions were mostly linked, with only a few years showing a strong decoupling. Factors like per capita output, population size, and energy intensity affect CO2 emissions. High energy-consumption sectors contribute the most to industrial emissions, with the Manufacture of Non-Metallic Mineral Products subsector being the highest emitter.
