Small farmers in India profit more through direct retail partnerships.
Small farmers in India are being connected to big markets through fresh food retail chains to help them earn more money. A study looked at a retail chain called 'Easy Day' in Punjab and found that they mostly work with small vegetable farmers. These farmers make more profit because they grow better quality produce. However, the retail chain only buys some of their crops, so farmers still have to sell some in local markets. The retail chain doesn't provide much help to farmers with things like seeds or advice. The study suggests ways to help small farmers sell more of their produce.
