Banana pseudostem boosts vermicompost yield and quality, revolutionizing organic farming.
The researchers studied how different feeding materials affect the growth and quality of vermicompost made by Eisenia foetida earthworms. They used cow dung alone and mixed with plant materials like banana pseudo-stem, leaf litter, and sawdust. The earthworms multiplied best in cow dung and sawdust mix, but produced the most vermicompost in cow dung alone. The vermicompost with cow dung and banana pseudo-stem had the highest quality, with more nutrients and microbes. All vermicomposts had good pH and electrical conductivity levels.
