New model accurately predicts longshore currents, improving coastal safety and planning.
The SWASH model was tested to see how well it predicts longshore currents caused by waves. The model accurately predicted wave heights, water levels, and longshore currents. It showed that longshore currents are mostly the same depth along the beach, except for near the shore. A simpler model can also predict longshore currents well, but needs adjustments for certain factors. This study helps us understand how waves create currents along the shore.
