Northern Cyprus on the Verge of Harnessing Wind Power for Electricity
The article assesses the potential of wind energy in eight locations in Northern Cyprus. Wind speed data was collected and analyzed using different models. The study found that the regions have a mean wind speed of over 2 m/s at 10 m height. Different distribution models fit the data for each location, with some areas showing better wind power potential than others. Wind power density ranged from 38.76 W/m2 to 134.29 W/m2 at 50 m height, indicating poor wind energy sources in the studied locations. However, a 5 kW wind turbine was found suitable for generating electricity for an average household in Northern Cyprus.
