The article discusses the results of a field inventory in three different villages with varying irrigation sources and cropping patterns. Khatijapura village in Karnataka relies on rainfed farming with limited groundwater. Daliparru village in Andhra Pradesh mainly grows paddy in the kharif season and pulses in the rabi season. Jarasingha village in Odisha has irrigation support and practices mixed cropping in the rabi season. Each village has different landholding sizes and leasing practices. Overall, the study shows how these villages adapt their cultivation practices to their specific agro-climatic conditions.
