New Study Reveals Best Three-Way Cover Crop Mix for Fall Forage
The researchers studied different mixtures of plants to see which ones produced the most forage for cattle in the fall. They found that oats are the best grass option, radishes are better than turnips, and winter peas are better than berseem clover for producing forage. In 2014, brassicas were more common in the mixtures, while in 2015, grasses and legumes were more common. Overall, oats produced the most forage, followed by barley, wheat, and rye. Radishes were better than turnips, and winter peas were better than berseem clover.
