The article discusses the author's 50-year journey in design research, focusing on computer-aided design, design methodology, design epistemology, and design cognition. The author explored the effectiveness of CAD and its impact on design professions, integrated procedural and structural aspects of design, developed concepts of designerly ways of knowing, and studied design expertise. The main goal was to progress from aiding design practice to understanding design as a discipline.
