Iranian transportation industry's energy intensity driven by high consumption, not structural changes, reveals groundbreaking study.
The research looked at how much energy is used to create goods and services in Iran’s transportation industry, focusing on road transport. By using a method called Divisia, the study broke down energy consumption and intensity into different factors like production, structure, and net energy use. The analysis revealed that changes in energy consumption and intensity in Iran's transportation sector are mostly influenced by the amount of energy used rather than changes in how the sector operates. Essentially, high energy consumption in road transportation is mainly due to how much energy is being used, not how the sector is structured.
