Soil texture determines carbon retention, impacting climate change mitigation efforts.
Fine textured soils can store more carbon than coarse soils. The type of soil and its clay content affect how much carbon is stored. In this study, two types of soils with similar clay content were compared. The soil in Kerala stored more carbon than the soil in Odisha. Adding fertilizers and manure helped store more carbon in the soil. Deeper soil layers stored more carbon than the topsoil.
