Scientists have developed a quick and effective way to change the genes of rice plants using a method called Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. This method makes it easier to understand how different traits in rice are controlled at a molecular level. By simplifying the process and using this method, researchers have been able to change thousands of genes in rice over the past decade and have recently edited hundreds of genes using a system called CRISPR-Cas9.
