Jilin City Faces Severe Water Shortage, Urgent Action Needed to Secure Supply
The researchers studied water supply and demand in Jilin City, finding that water resources are unevenly distributed across the city, with downtown areas having very little per person. While current needs are mostly met, future growth might lead to water shortages. Water resource efficiency in Jilin is lower than in nearby cities, putting the city at moderate to high risk of water scarcity. To address this, the study suggests improving water dispatch systems and building more water infrastructure. It also recommends adjusting industrial and agricultural practices to better match water availability, limiting groundwater use, and increasing the use of surface water. Lastly, increasing water efficiency in agriculture and industry could help alleviate the water resource challenges in Jilin City.
