Polluted Haihe River Threatens Millions in Northern China
The Haihe River Basin in China faces serious water pollution issues. After studying water quality trends from 2005 to 2017, it was found that water quality is better in the north and worse in the south. Specifically, the Luanhe River has the best water quality, with Grades I to III accounting for about 60% of the river, while the Tuhaimajia River has the poorest water quality, with over 60% classified as Grade V or worse. Over time, improvements in water quality were seen in Shandong Province's Tuhaimajia River system, with the proportion of severely polluted water dropping from 100% to around 30%. This indicates progress in reducing water pollution in this region.
