This article explores how Indigenous and Canadian laws intersect in adoption and immigration. Indigenous peoples have the authority to regulate these matters under their own laws, but Canadian laws have obscured this authority. Decolonization requires Indigenous control over adoption and "peopling" powers, including authority over borders and immigration. Adoption has been a form of resistance, but is limited by Canadian sovereignty.
