Lignin Breakthrough Boosts Biofuel Production from Waste Biomass
Microorganisms can break down plant material like coconut husks and sugarcane leftovers. They found that when these materials are broken down, a substance called lignin helps boost the activity of enzymes that break down cellulose, a key component of plants. Even though coconut husks have less cellulose, they still showed high enzyme activity. This discovery goes against what was previously thought. By understanding this process better, we can improve how we convert plant waste into useful products.
