Cheaper Coal Injection Boosts Steel Production, Conserves Scarce Resources
Injecting fine coal particles into blast furnaces can save coking coal and reduce the need for expensive coke. Indian non-coking coal with low ash content can be cleaned and used for this purpose, conserving coking coal reserves and saving money. Laboratory tests show that the cleaned coal meets the requirements for pulverized coal injection in steel making, with low volatile content, phosphorous, and sulfur, and good grindability.
