Revolutionizing Food Security: Satellite Data Enhances Crop Yield Predictions
The goal of the study was to improve the resolution of satellite data on leaf area index (LAI) to better monitor vegetation growth for food production. The researchers used a method that combined MODIS and Landsat data to estimate LAI at a higher spatial resolution. By analyzing the relationship between vegetation index and LAI data, they were able to accurately estimate LAI values at a 30m resolution in different climates and ecosystems. This approach can help in predicting crop yields and supporting early warning systems for food security.
