Forests Could Offset Carbon Emissions, But Enterprises Hesitant to Invest
The study explores how companies can use forests to absorb carbon emissions. By using a special computer model called a Bayesian network, the researchers figured out how businesses can benefit from planting trees to offset their carbon outputs. They found that companies understand the importance of increasing forest carbon absorption and lowering emissions. However, they are not very eager to invest in buying carbon credits from forests. The government tends to control the pricing of forest carbon credits, and the risks involved in trading these credits are shared between businesses and the government. To encourage more businesses to invest in forest carbon sequestration, the government should include it in the national carbon trading system and create new ways to trade carbon credits.
