Revolutionary low-cost wastewater treatment plant removes heavy metals and pathogens efficiently.
A low-cost wastewater treatment plant was created in Nigeria to clean different types of wastewater. The plant used local materials like ferns, sand, and charcoal to purify the water. After testing the plant with industrial, municipal, domestic, and aquaculture wastewater, it was found to remove heavy metals like cadmium and manganese completely, as well as reduce other pollutants significantly. The treated water was safe for agricultural use, with pathogens and microorganisms also reduced. Overall, the treatment plant was highly effective in cleaning the water and removing pollutants.
