New indica rice varieties boost yield potential and improve food security.
The study looked at different types of conventional indica rice to see how their sink potential affects grain yield. They found that varieties with higher sink potential produced more grain. These high sink potential varieties also had more panicles, more spikelets per panicle, and heavier grains. The number of spikelets and panicles per unit area had a bigger impact on sink potential than grain weight. Spikelet density and panicle length were more important for spikelet number than branch numbers.
