Remarkable diversity of snakes discovered in Republic of Congo's Pool department.
The study was conducted in three areas in the Pool department of the Republic of Congo to inventory and understand the distribution of snakes in different habitats. Using active and passive sampling methods, researchers found 21 snake specimens belonging to 15 species, with Colubridae and Lamprophiidae families being the most diverse. Boaedon fuliginosus and Causus maculatus were the most commonly found species. Despite habitat degradation, the study revealed a significant richness and diversity of snakes in this region of the Republic of Congo.
