High-altitude grasslands key in fighting climate change with carbon sequestration
Increasing carbon sequestration in soil helps reduce CO2 in the atmosphere and fight climate change. A study in North Sabalan looked at how elevation and vegetation affect carbon storage in rangelands. They found that vegetation type and elevation significantly impact soil characteristics. Grasslands at higher elevations had more organic carbon and nitrogen, while grasslands at mid-elevations had higher gravel content. This shows that where and what grows in an area can affect how much carbon is stored in the soil.
