The article presents a new theory for designing decision support systems that can be customized to fit different user needs. The researchers developed this theory by studying how DSS can be tailored for specific industries like agriculture and forestry. They came up with a general solution concept and five design principles that were successfully applied in a forestry DSS, proving the theory's effectiveness. This work shows how tailored technology can be innovative and how action design research can help improve DSS design.
