Farmers in high-income countries have been improving their agricultural practices by working closely with researchers and experts. Traditional research methods have been criticized for not involving farmers enough, leading to the development of farming systems research (FSR). FSR has evolved into integrated systems research (ISR), which now includes collaboration between different types of scientists. New methods have been developed to better understand farmers' needs and expertise, allowing them to be more involved in research and development projects.
