Newly discovered fungi produce record-breaking laccase levels for eco-friendly industrial applications.
Researchers isolated a fungus called Trametes sp. MA-X01 that produces a lot of laccase, an enzyme with various uses. They found that adding copper and certain aromatic compounds to the fungus's environment made it produce even more laccase. The highest laccase activity was achieved by adding 2.5 mM of copper, resulting in a 7-fold increase compared to the control group. Additionally, adding vanillic acid or vanillin also significantly boosted laccase production.
