The telecommunications industry in China has been rapidly growing and improving its productivity through technological advancements. A study analyzed data from 2011 to 2015 and found that the industry's productivity increased by 22.9% per year, mainly due to technological progress. Efficiency, however, did not improve much. Regions with lower levels of development have more potential for growth through catching up technologically. The industry saw higher productivity and technological progress in the later years of the study.
