New study reveals best method to estimate water evaporation in China.
Potential evapotranspiration in Handan Eastern Plain, China was estimated using three methods: Hargreaves, Priestley-Taylor, and FAO Penman-Monteith. Results showed that Penman-Monteith method was the most accurate, with a strong correlation to water surface evaporation (r=0.991). Hargreaves method gave the highest estimates, while Priestley-Taylor method gave the lowest. Seasonal potential evapotranspiration values followed the order: summer > spring > autumn > winter. Overall, Penman-Monteith method is recommended for estimating potential evapotranspiration in this region.
