Intercropping pigeonpea and millets boosts yields and profits in rainfed areas.
A study was done to see how well pigeonpea and millets grow together in dry conditions. Pigeonpea alone gave the most grain, while pigeonpea with finger millet gave the least. Pigeonpea with foxtail millet had the highest overall yield. The soil had less water when pigeonpea was with finger millet or foxtail millet. Pigeonpea alone had the most plant material. Pigeonpea with foxtail millet made the most money and had a good profit compared to the cost.
