Laccase pretreatment helps break down lignin in bagasse to extract more hemicellulose. Researchers used a special design to optimize the extraction process with microwaves and alkaline solution. They found that pretreating with laccase reduced lignin in bagasse and increased its surface area. The best conditions for hemicellulose extraction were 8% NaOH, 50 minutes, and 900 watts. The interaction between NaOH concentration, extraction time, and microwave power had a big impact on hemicellulose extraction. Overall, using laccase before extraction improved the process of getting hemicellulose from bagasse.
