Compressed air energy storage (CAES) can help balance electricity supply and demand with wind power. A study used computer models to design and test a CAES system for wind power. The system was found to work better with variable shaft speed, storing more energy, generating more electricity, and costing less than constant speed mode. This research provides insights into improving CAES systems for wind power and reducing costs.
