A new digital soil map of the United States, called STATSGO2, has been created by combining data on geology, topography, vegetation, and climate with satellite images. This map shows different types of soils and non-soil areas across the country. The researchers used detailed soil survey maps to determine the composition and extent of each soil type. The map data is available at state, territory, and national levels, and includes information on the properties of the soils.
