New hybrid ridge gourd varieties boost yield and quality significantly!
Researchers studied 33 hybrid varieties of ridge gourd to see how they performed in terms of growth, yield, and quality traits in different environments. They crossed 11 different inbred lines with 3 testers to create these hybrids. Some of the hybrids showed significant increases in fruit yield compared to the best check variety, with one hybrid showing a 41.64% increase. Overall, 12 hybrids outperformed the average of their parents by 10.07% to 68.33% in terms of fruit yield. The best crosses can be used to improve ridge gourd through heterosis breeding programs.
