Oil palm expansion in Colombia threatens diverse mammal species habitats.
Oil palm cultivation in Colombia is expanding rapidly, but its impact on wildlife is not well understood. This study focused on medium-large mammals to see how they are affected by oil palm growth in the Llanos region. Camera traps were used in oil palm plantations and riparian forests to study mammal populations. The research found that the diversity and habitat use of mammals differ between oil palm plantations and riparian forests, highlighting the importance of considering wildlife in land-use planning.
