Depositional Environment and Tectonic Evolution Impact Coalbed Methane Occurrence in China
The study looked at how the environment and geological changes affect the presence of coalbed methane in West Henan, China. They analyzed coal samples to see how the depositional environment and tectonic shifts impacted methane storage. The environment eroded coal structures, reducing methane storage capacity. Tectonic changes transformed coal, increasing its ability to store methane. Overall, the study found that environmental factors and geological shifts play a significant role in determining the amount of methane that coal can hold.
