New model predicts beach erosion during storms with improved accuracy.
Beach profiles change during storms, causing erosion and damage to coastal areas. Various models have been developed to simulate this process, focusing on different aspects like dune erosion, bar and berm formation, and sediment transport. The XBeach model is widely used but has limitations in describing the subaerial region. A new model based on previous work aims to provide a more physically accurate description of how the beach profile responds to storms, particularly focusing on the berm and foreshore regions.
